A shipwreck has been found off the coast of Canada and has been identified as one of the long lost ships belonging to Sir John Franklin, which is also known as H.M.S Terror. Although the wreck was found in 2016 it wasn’t properly investigated until now. Archaeologists were astounded on how well the ship was preserved and the lead archaeologist said “You look at it and find it hard to believe this is a 170-year-old shipwreck. You just don’t see this kind of thing very often.”. Before the ship sunk it was accompanied with another state of the art ship called Erebus, and they were set to sail and discover the Northwest Passage in may 1845. The ship was equipped with 133 men, food to last them three years in the arctic and the best scientific equipment at the time and was said to be the best prepared expeditions ever to leave Britain’s shores. The two ships were last seen by two whaling vessels in late july 1845 but were never seen again. Years passed so Britain set out search parties to look for the ships and found a few skeletons that had been shown to be eaten by cannibals and they also found some other items from the ships, but they didn’t know what happened to the ships themselves. A note was later found that said the ships had been locked in ice for a year and a half, and 24 men were dead including John Franklin and the some of the remaining crew was planning to walk across the ice, but unfortunately they were over 200km away from any land so none of them made it alive.
I’m sorry but i couldn’t find any other interesting stories and i find these tasks really challenging to find and write about.
